DoDMERB qualification is near and dear to my heart. I found out I was offered an Air Force Academy appointment contingent on my medical qualification in 2007.
Like so many other high school athletes, I suffered a severe chest cold during my 10th-grade year that was misdiagnosed as sports-induced asthma by my family physician.
The result: disqualification due to asthma.
Days before my high school graduation, my dad and I traveled across the state to take a breathing test to prove I did not in fact have asthma of any kind. The good news is, it worked. The Air Force Academy medical team accepted the test, and I was granted a waiver.
Afterward, we joked that the test was the most expensive medical test of our lives: $400,000—the value of an education at the Air Force Academy.
In reality, this is no joke. Talented and capable young men and women across the nation are disqualified every year and they don’t know what to do about it.
We designed this course to arm you with the knowledge to do everything in your power to secure your child’s future education.
